vieled chameleon
Do humidity levels have to be high for veiled chameleons? Also are infared and basking bulbs good for a heat source.

Re: vieled chameleon
I'm currently taking care of my parent's Veiled Chameleons. They don't need temps any higher than 80 degrees during the day and I spray their cage and plants down 2-3 times daily. At bedtime, they like it completely dark and all lights off, and the temps can get as low as 68 degrees. Humidity is important, but they really need good ventellation and as long as you spray down their cage and plants, they should be fine. I would guess that my humidity is about 25-30 percent, though some think it should be higher, but they're doing just fine in their mesh cage.
They're not as sensitive as most chameleons, and my mothers actually are very spoiled: they drink water from a dropper by hand and will take crickets right from my fingers. Charlie, the male, also likes to sit by the window and bask on my chair.
Pics of them are attached, Charlie is actually mad in the pic because he had just seen his reflection in the mirror...lol
But he does look brilliant when he's angry...lol

Re: vieled chameleon
OH! One more thing...they have a small basking bulb but they really only need a UVB light source just to get those rays. Basking spots are very nice but not required as long as the ambient temp during the day is 75-80 degrees. They actually can overheat very easily.

Re: vieled chameleon
Charlie is SUPER SWEET. Venessa is kinda...well, she's moody. But she's getting more and more used to being handled. Like I said, they eat crickets right from my fingers: Charlie will even do that when I'm holding him.
They're great, especially the males, but they're also double the price of the females. The thing with the females is that they have to breed every other year or so or their lifespan is actually limited to nearly half of what it should be. It's as if they have to reproduce to live a long healthy life.
Oh, and neither of them have tried to bite. The most that Venessa will do is open her mouth wide, get darker, and hiss. lol
One more thing, if you really want to get one, Boa_kid, just remember that they are high maintenance, and require you to be there. You need to have someone who can take care of them properly if you ever happen to go on a vacation. My parents usually take them with them wherever they go but they couldn't (of course) take them on the cruise ship. lol
They are currently housed in this:
Exo Terra Explorarium 60- Large -- 24" x 36" (60cm x 90cm)
It's good for one permanently, but when they're both at home they are in this:
Apogee Reptarium - 175 gallon

Adule Female chameleon actually doesnt need to be bred every year or every other year as long as there is an egg-laying site for her to lay infertilized eggs.

i just wanna say if you spray them 3 times a day, you should have higher humidity in around 80 degree. But, spraying them 3 times a day will be good. i prefer 4 times a day or have a dripping system.
