My sister was at the pet store last night and a kid came in trying to get rid of his veiled chameleon. It looks healthy and is about 5" overall in length.

I have been doing a fair amount of research and was actually considering getting one but not this fast.... I would have liked to been able to do more research first. But who can pass up a free reptile, huh?

Any tips will be helpful!

CHeck out www.adcham.com, and the "chameleons" group at yahoo groups. You can join here. Screen cages are a must, as you probably already know if you've done any research. Ultrasonic humidifiers work great to keep humidity up. If you get one with a round output hole, you can use PVC to pipe the mist up over the cage and create a waterfall effect. Oversupplementation is as much of a problem with these guys as undersupplementation, so the best way to keep them healthy is to make sure your feeders are very well fed, and use calcium and vitamin dusts sparingly. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at reptilemama19@yahoo.com. Good luck!

5" with tail???

A 3ft lenght
2ft wide
41/2ft high

viv will be ok for an adult veiled cham. check out
www.chamresearch.com
theve got a good forum
Tips:
dont handle very much, in fact as little as possible i only handle mine when im cleaning him
but you might get one completly different to mine eg docile and likes to be handled. Most people i know with chams only handle when cleaning so its not really a hands on pet. but there still fasinating and beauitful.

give lots of braches and greenery, and mist regularly or get a zoo-med waterfall (they are great, the running water really gets the humidity up)

if you look on my prev post on this forum it will give you an idea on how much to feed, i found out that it was a good diet.

Hope this gave you some advice on what chams need,
also let us know how you go on with your cham + send a pic if u can

later
Jowex

p.s. if theres anything i missed just ask

Ok Ill tell you what Ive found out. Lots of humidity like 60-70% you have to mist him severl times a day because they USUALLY wont drink out of a bowl, you can also try a drip system. Moss is a good substr8te. it holds moisture really well and is gr8 for the humidity. Dont hold him very often I have heard although Im not positive that our hands can secrete substances toxic to them so when you do hold him use an antibacterial soap and rinse really well before you pick up the lil guy. If he doesnt like floor hunting try suspending a little coffee can under his branches to put the crickets in that way he can eat and not have to track down his meals. keep the bottom of his habitat cooler than the top because thats what it would be like in the wild. Hope some of this info helps. My new baby is doing gr8 and these are things Ive learned since Ive gotten him...
