Chameleon????

I was wondering what is the nicest chameleon i can get??? Also do they make good first time reptile pets??? I know they rely on alot of stuff but i am willing to give it whatever it needs. Is there anything really important that i should know before getting one?????

i think veiled chameleons have nice green colors, i like panther cameleons colors, a lot of red

Chameleons do NOT make good first reptiles. They are *very* delicate, have very specific requirements, are slow to show signs of disease (many syptoms are very sublte and even experienced keepers can miss them), they can be picky eaters, and even under perfect conditions don't always thrive. They don't enjoy being handled, either, and are pretty much display animals only. They require a lot of time and money to keep them healthy. I loved my panther chameleon and miss her a lot (she passed away last year), but do not feel I could properly care for one now that I am single and working full time. They're very cool animals, but not for everyone.

I just got my first veiled cham this past weekend. You can get them in some pretty neat colors, though nothing like the panthers and such... I've had reptiles for a good while now, and I did a LOT of research on chameleons before I decided to get one, even though I'm still all full of questions even now, its really complex from what I've found. I was really determined to get my cham, no matter how difficult, but you would probably be better off getting another lizard first. If you have never had a reptile at all, you probably arent used to having to work on temperatures and lighting and everything like that, and while my cham is brand new to me and I'm by no means an expert, IMO its definately not a pet you want to walk into just because they look pretty or something. My little dude is so small right now, and so stressed out from being shipped that he wont eat, and I spend all day worrying about him. Do some research about it, read whatever you can get your hands (or mouse clicker) on, I also contacted some of the breeders that were selling in the classifieds and stuff, and asked them questions. Also try reading through some of the old posts in here or on other reptile sites you can find. I don't really have a lot of answers other than that, other than most people have said that Veiled chams are the hardiest, and easiest (use that word lightly) to keep, though still really difficult. Actually my boyfriend has a red tail boa and now a sav monitor so i am familiar w/ how touchy the temp is, but i understand what u r getting at. I am definitly going to do more research before i buy one. Thats why i came on here and posted a question so thanx for all your help.
