depends on which system you use. If you use a buckey system you can use a sub heater but then you have to worry about water levels getting too low. Which type do you use?

I guess it would depend on what your going to use it for. For a BP i wouldn't use one at all.
many of the High humidity loving herps like lower temps like ATBs and ETBs so having a warm mist isnt really necessary. Rain isn't usually warm
Nicole i think he is talking about the pro-mist systems. Even with my ATBs I dont use a mister.

Good question here is the answer .....
Use an aquarium heater in the bucket - also use an air stone attached to a pump to keep the water moving so nothing grows in there. You need to clean the bucket weekly when doing this.
I also use this stuff called heat rope and wrap it around the tubing outside the bucket. You can get heat rope at LLLReptile or Big Apple Herp. Use a rheostat with it though.
With the above setup all the water is heated - everywhere. If you needed to choose one or the other, I would go with heating the water in the bucket, but both are ideal. Depends on the amount of electrical sockets you have free. The heatrope uses one while the aquar. heater and air pump use 2 - so with both u are using up 3 sockets.

problem with a misting system and the sub heater is that if your water level drops (and mine was a pain to keep filling) the heater will crack with lack of contact.
If your the type to keep up with it then give it a shot

interesting useless knowlege.... The reason you want to use warm water rather than cool water is because warm water vapor molecules move faster then cool ones. This causes the molecules to bounce off nuclei and keep up in the air. Cooler water will bind with nuclei causing it to condense rather than stay a float.
good thing I'm doing my meteorology homework right now, so I've got my book open to the "water in the atmosphere page" lol.

But once the cool droplets, hit a warm surface they vaporize again solving that problem

I agree with the water line problem with the heater. In fact i just use the heaty rope now. My cham likes to run under the misting nozzle to shower and or have a drink. So its initially warm water coming out for a little while. I got sick of cleaning out the bucket too - the heat in there made everything slimy. Thats real deep info on the molecules. Theres also the fact that the water gets pretty cold quick once it starts floating down towards the bottom of the cage.

I have 2 misting systems from Pro-Products. Bob Pound the owner of Por-Products told me a few years ago not to even worry about heating the water. He said people ask him all the time and he says even if you have a heater in the water by time it is pushed threw it is going to be cool again anyways.
Thanks, Tim Rash
