FL Python Hunter interview questions

I may be able to get a few question answered for us, if y'all are interested, by members of the team hunting burms in the Everglades. This is the team that is radio-tracking sterilized burms to see what they meet up with and where...

What questions do you have?

Re: FL Python Hunter interview questions

It would be interesting No.1 to hear step by step what is involved with their work..
How many of the snakes they have found so far?

What are the measurements on the largest one found so far?

How long do they think these snakes have been surviving in the area? (In other words how many years ago did people start letting these things go?)

What have they discovered about natural behavior that might differ from standard scientific information we have now?

What are the estimates now as to how many ex pets are in the area?

Have they run across other sp. of snakes not naturally occuring? Cobras? Retics?

Are they euthanizing animals they find so far? If so, how many have been euthanized? (not that I blame them here, something has to be done to preserve the natural environment)

What is the opinion on the new legislation involving permits? Do you think it will make a difference? At least by holding accountable those who illegally dump these animals?

Re: FL Python Hunter interview questions

How precisely do they go about sterilizing these snakes?

Has an impact study been performed to determine the severity of the issue? If so, what were the results?

Has there been a noticeable decline in native wildlife that can be directly attributed to the problem of Burmese pythons in the wild?

Have they noticed any substantial behavioral change with the feral burms here compared with the native burms in their true home range? If so, how do they explain that adaptation?

What type of tracking device are they using? GPS, Radio telemetry, or other?

How large is the "Home range" of the average feral burm?

Besides alligators, what native predators do they have (throughout their life-cycle)?

Based on stomach content evaluation, what have they been feeding on throughout their life cycle?

Do they feel that lessons learned with this project will assist them in dealing with other feral wildlife issues such as the Nile Monitors on the Gulf coast?

Is 42 REALLY the meaning of life?

Re: FL Python Hunter interview questions

The above questions are all great. The only things I would add are:

Any interesting stories involved in an encounter with a burm? Close calls, humorous happenings, you know stories from the feild.

Re: FL Python Hunter interview questions

no questions from me but I did hear from some local employees there that they are "using" some of the bigger females by tracking them and then are able to capture all the horny males that try to find those tracked females.
