Grrr :( i just want my boa to be happy, im such a bad mom :(
perhaps i am just a bad "mom " to my boa. Any suggestions on keeping the humidity up. i spray its cage a few times a day and cover one side "the cool side" with a towel the temp stays between 84-89 on the hot side, my cage setup is crap but its what i can do for now i have a glass cage screen top lid. I noticed its last shed 2 days ago i was looking and thought i noticed both eyecaps. now a piece of my snakes eye on the right side is stuck i heard about getting mineral or almond oil and swabbing at it. i did and it is still there Also some skin is left on its tail blocking the vent i have been soaking it in warm water , my snake loves soaking only if he is doing it himself , he seems to hate when i am putting him in any sort of water, although i am helping him. I put some oil on my hand and rub from head to tail to try to loosen the skin by the vent, i dont know if i pull at the skin if my snake will hurt . i also read somewhere where someone dabbed at a retained eyecap with tape ,sticky side up,since i am a newbie to the snake, i dont want to attempt to dab anything sticky to his eye .

I'm pretty knew too but I put plastic over the lid of my 20 gal. long then poked holes in it and added a small slit in the middle of the plastic. Now the humidity is great.
Good luck.

screen tops are a pain, daily misting, a couple times a day if they're getting ready to shed is good. I love humid hides and alot of the snakes seem to also. How big is he and what are you trying to soak him in? Give em something to hold on to in the tote you soak him in and use a lid with it (with air holes somewhere). They're gonna try and move, but then if you put em in an empty tote they'd probably try to get away there too. I find they calm down after getting their tail wrapped around something. That's what I do so that's my suggestion, I'm sure others will have other ideas. good luck

okay from another reply i have covered the lid with plastic and poked holes in it, the humidity is up now, i think what i will have to do is put another heat pas under the tank and put the one i have under it now stuck to the side to keep heat in , before my problem was not enough humidity, now my tank has 57% humidity and 78 degrees on the hot side. i have a hide box for him he is one yrs old and 3 feet long. i soak it in a rubbermaid container in warm water , now my problem is How to remove the small piece of skin left on its eye and on the vent , this is so frustrating to me because i just want it to be happy and love me but Grr if its not one thing its another. i hope it gets easier when he is bigger when i can get him a good decent homemade cage, and keep it at the right temp the right humidity.

78 is way to low. it has to be 88 degrees. your boa will end up with a RI if it is that low.

I saw a suggestion here once that at least looked real good to me. Talking about stuck sheds the poster said to go sit with your snake in a bathroom with the shower running warm. Not in the shower but just in the bathroom while the humidity gets real high and foggy. Hold the snake in a damp towel and just let it crawl through it in your hands the way it normally would if you had it out. This gives the snake the chance to get it's stuck sheds off itself. Maybe that can help you out now as you continue to work on fixing the other heat and humidity issues.
