sand

i've never used it, but everyone i've ever talked to says that CalciSand is of the devil. well there are a lot of other sands on the market. do they cause the same problems Calci-Sand causes? okay i've found VitaSand, ESU Calcium Sand, and Repti Sand. are they the same thing as CalciSand? if so, would a good replacement subsrtate be something like Reptile Grass since they can't swallow it? what about Coconut Bark Chips or ReptiBark as long as the peices were too big to swallow?

viper and/or pictus gecko. really tiny little guys! i know paper towels are the safest, but if at all possible i'd like to use something nicer and more realistic. i hate the sterile look. babies i would definately keep on paper towels, though. they're just too tiny.

I wish I knew of some other options for you to try, but i've never used anything other than newspaper and papertowels. Maybe someone else on here can give you more insight as to what else may be safe.

well pictus geckos require humidity, i would recommend using somthing that holds humidity fairly well with them. as for viper geckos, ive never had one, so im not too familiar with that species. we have a caresheet on them, it says calci sand is fine, however, anything small i dont like using sand on.

for my cresties, i use this stuff called eco-earth. It hold humidity great and looks real natural. It is expandable cocunut fibers- harmless if accidentally ingested (unless they eat way too much of it lol) one pack is about 4$ and will cover a 40 gallon aqauium. You can just cut it with a saw if thats too much and throw it in some warm water and your done.

hey gecko guy - i LOVE the 'eco earth' stuff. there's all kinds of brands of it, but generally it's called coconut fiber bedding. it's supposed to be digestable, but it's probably VERY fibrous so i still might feed out of the cage.
