I've been reading alot of the threads on wooden cages and see that people are sealing them with an airdry type of polyurethane that takes a long time to dry before they can use them.
I'm in the middle of building some enclosures for my burms right now. I plan on using a product made by dupont that is called hyperclear. It is a urethane clear that is catalyzed with a hardener, so it dries to handling within two hours, and because it dries chemically, will have no fumes after 24 hours! I will be spraying the parts, as I have access to a booth, but I don't see why you couldn't brush it on. It can be found at auto parts stores that carry Dupont autopainting products. There are other urethane clears that dry on the average of 4 to 6 hours and no fumes after 24 hours. Of course this kind of product is more expensive and once activated can't be returned to the can, so you're better off mixing a little at a time. I'll let ya know how it goes. (sorry for the long post.) p.s. I don't know if it can be applied over an oil based stain.
