i built this tree type thing out of 1 1/4 in doll rod and used 3/8 rods to hold it together for my smaller ones and it works real good. they seem to like it
it 4 feet tall and the arms are 12 in and for the base i used my christmas tree holder. it took about 20 mins to build and drill but over night to let the glue dry . it was around $8.00 or so to build

Um, first it's Dowel Rod
I build a similar thing for my Anole cage waaaaay back, kind like artificial trees. Even drilled teeny tiny holes to stick plactic leaves into. They're awesome b/c you can clean them easily.
Wino, put you $8 in your pocket and take your self to home depot. Drill some holes, apply wood glue, let stand. Shoot, you can get a decent drill for $40 or less.
I have discovered that carpentry skills go very well with keeping reptiles

I have seen a lot of enclosures that have dowel rods for climbing objects and other such things. That seem to blend in well. But for $8 I got me a nice Habba Tree that is perfect for my royal to climb. He loves it. Also, try walking the banks of lakes, you'll be surprised at what you could find to include in your enclosure.
