Talking AP cages received and setup!!!

On Thursday I received my shipment of 16 AP cages!! Two of my buddies came over to help unload the cages and set them up. They got there about 2ish and we started bagging snakes up and taking the old cages outside. We also had to unscrew a few of the ceramic light fixtures of the old cages to install in the new ones.

Even Zebo (short for Gazebo) wanted to help so we told him to keep an eye on the snakes.

A quick sweep and moving of another rack of cages and the room was emptied.

At 3:00 the freight truck pulled up outside the house and we unloaded the cages into the back yard. It took us about 20 minutes to unload the cages and check to make sure nothing was damaged. My main concern was the glass would be cracked or broken, but it was wrapped up really well.

Over the next 8 hours we started putting the cages together, screwing in the light figures on the 18" high cages, taping flexwatt to the 12" high four foots, and stacking the cages up on the bases.

(That's me in the Led Zep shirt)

The 6 foots were definitely a two person job, but the 4 foots you can put together yourself. My buddies both left for an hour or so about 7 so I put a couple four foots together myself. At 10 we finished sealing the cages and the guys went home. I stayed up til about 2 putting spacing blocks on the sides and back of the bases to allow air to flow around the cages and to allow space for electrical cords. I also spent some time working on putting finishing touches on my incubator.

Here's what the room looked like on Thursday night. Starting in the left side working clockwise to the right.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!

On Friday one of my friends came back and we finished putting the lights in the 4 foot cages (I can't remember why we didn't on Thursday...). We emptied the bedding out of the old cages and moved another cage into the snake room. We took a break to go see Clash of the Titans, my friend dropped me back off at 12 and I then started putting mulch in the cages. I ran into a couple issues. The second bag of mulch was infested with ants! So I had to take it all back out again. Then one of the cages wasn't sealed, we missed it somehow so I had to do that. Then another bag of mulch had ants in it! I was pretty pisssed off by then, probably should have taken it as a sign to stop, but I'm stubborn... Then I started sifting through each bag after to make sure it didn't have ants either. I started putting snakes into their new cages just to get them out of bags and in a warmer environment. Again it was about 2 when I went to bed.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!

Last night I started washing water bowls, hide boxes, and the like. Put those all in then started screwing perches into the 18' high four foots. I also had to fix one of the cages because the key broke off in the lock sealing the glass closed! I was pretty annoyed to say the least, it happened on Thursday by the way. Thankfully it was the top one so I just unscrewed the top panel, took the glass out, and popped the lock out.

The snake room still looks like a war zone, but I’m going to get on it right now to finish putting in props and cleaning up. I should hopefully be done by tonight and get pics of the finished product tonight.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!

Hmm.. I could have sworn I posted the finished pics... well here they are (clockwise around the room):

Actually this setup doesn't exist any more. The boas have gone to live with Sakara for a while and the carpets went to a friend in Atlanta. And one friend took a jungle and another took my pair of adult normal Bredl's pythons. I'm working a summer job for the Forest Service in New Mexico so I had to find snake sitters.

I chose the T25s (72x30x18 ) for my adult boas and that's plenty of room! The T11 (48x24x1 would be fine as well if you get a smaller locality or a male BCI or BCC. If you only have a few boas then I'd go for the bigger cage over a smaller one to conserve space. Also I'd recommend getting the 18" or 24" high over the 12". Even though they don't really need the space, it makes cleaning soooo much easier. I am VERY pleased with my AP cages! Their customer service is top notch and they sent me more than enough silicone to seal the cages. Once I settle back down I need to order some more 4 foots for some carpets that I plan to get in the future.

Unless I'm misunderstanding that situation, forgive me, but you don't need to remove the top panel in order to remove the glass in an AP cage, at least not with mine, lol.

The glass lifts up, leaving just enough room to draw it out. If I had to take the top panel off the cage to clean the glass or spray a cleaner inside the cage to get the inside of the glass, I'd be going with different cages altogether, lol.

Unless Im misunderstanding, He couldnt just lift the glass out of its track and had to remove the top panel because it was broke with the cage locked and both pieces were locked together? But maybe he could of lifted both pieces out at the same time? I dunno lol He got it so thats all that matters.

With the two glass panels locked together I couldn't lift the glass out. On mine the glass panels fit snuggly into routed grooves on the left and right side locking them in place so you can't just lift the panels out if they're locked. So I had to take the top off to get the glass out.

Aly sent me a new lock free of charge!

Sorry dear, the old cages were sold to another friend to help pay for these new cages. I put the money from selling the old cages with my tax return and after I sell some babies, the cages will be basically free! I really only had to shell out $2200 for all the cages, once I sell babies I'll make that back easy.
