Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
APs are definitely worth it! They can be kinda a pain to put together, but they're VERY sturdy! I can carry a 4 foot around by myself, the 6 foots are another story...

For a small time breeder their service is what I strive to offer my customers as well.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
I'm always overlooking that depression that holds the locking mechanism, lol. Sorry, Vex.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
I know this is kind of an old thread, but had some questions about the APs. Do you prefer sliding doors over swinging and why? Also why did you go with flexwatt over RHPs? Also would you say the 48x24x15 would be a good size to be able to clean fairly easily? I am seriously considering the APs and want to make sure I do the right thing. Thanks
James

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
No worries James!
I greatly prefer the sliding doors over swing down or out doors. Ironically I didn't at first. I hated that bedding gets stuck in the track and can be a pain to get out. I also disliked having to pop the glass out in order to clean instead of swinging the door out. But after getting my Boaphile a few years ago (well like 4 years now lol) combined with working venomous I prefer sliding doors The drop down door just gets in the way a bit if you're moving a snake to the cage below. Also the single large door makes it difficult to put an active venomous snake (or aggressive snake) back in safely. With sliding doors you can close it just enough to let the snake back in without it shooting out the other side or swinging around to bit you. The swing out to the side doors are just too big and annoying, tending to slowly move closed while you work.
Another downside of the swinging doors (at least APs) is they can warp and need to be secured by multiple turn nobs. The Boaphiles I believe do not have this problem, my 421D door is still perfect.
It's all personal preference though bro.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
Hey again Vex, just wondering what size you would recommend for Irian Jayas and Boas... I was thinking 48x24x18 for the IJs and 48x24x15 for the Boas. Let me know what you think.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
A 48x24x18 is plenty of room for most carpets! I've heard people put Bredli and Coastals in similar size cages too, but to me that seems a bit cramped, especially when you consider having two in there for breeding. I do have a large 8ft+ male in a 48x24x18 cage and he seems to have plenty of room, but I wouldn't want to have two 8ft+ carpets in there. Lots of people say 24" high for carpets, but seriously 18 is fine as long as you give them some branches or a shelf. What's an extra 6" but wasted space to heat and find ways to fill?
For male BCI/BCC or female insular and CA boas a 48x24x15 is fine. For a female BCI/BCC I'd prefer a 72x24x15/18. I went with 72x30x18 and I'm kinda kicking myself now cause that's a massive-huge cage!!! Going with 15" over 12" for females can make your life cleaning and pulling babies and a large snake soooo much easier.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
Thanks a ton for answering my questions. Is there anything you don't like about the AP cages? I am pretty much down to them and PVCcages.com.

Re: AP cages received and setup!!!
The only issue i have is the lip around the front of the cage on the 12" highs is a little low so the mulch falls out almost constantly. And I've already chipped a corner of one of the 6 foot cages trying to drag it. Which is just due to the type of expanded plastic used by the vast majority of cage companies.
I couldn't find what exactly PVC cages makes their cages out of, but it has to be some PVC derived plastic.
