Polypro Vs PVC
I am working on building some new cages, upgrading from the 3/4" melamine.
I have found good suppliers of both materials in 48"x24"x1/2", but there is a big price difference between the 2.
Polypro is about half the price of Expanded pvc, but not sure if it it will hold up?
I plan on using fasteners to put it together.
I have seen enclosures built out of both materials, anyone have any ideas?

How do you intend to fasten it and make the bottom waterproof/secure?

Re: Polypro Vs PVC
Adhesives and pass thro bolts on 90 degree brackets/corner brackets. they will have a center divider to support the middle. then i will use a silicone to waterproof the joints.

Re: Polypro Vs PVC
im getting a few sheets of 4'x8'x1/2" and 1/4" of xpvc this weekend to build this rack system im working on. the 1/2" sheet goes for 90 bucks and the 1/4" sheet is 55.
at those prices you can build 2 4'x2' enclosures off 1 sheet alone throw in something extra for acrylic or plexiglass for the front and youd be paying less than the 200 a premade enclosure costs (some even require you to assemble the enclosure yourself).
the company i am buying from precuts the sheets to your measurements at no added cost...
besides the point that you can custom design the enclosure to how you want it there is a pretty good amount of cash youd be saving... just my .02.
the rack system im building will house 8 3.75'x2.2' tubs will cost me about 350 to build including heating. anywhere else a rack of this size could cost hundreds more... the rack i have now holds 8 42qt tubs and i made it with just under 100 bucks including heating.... if you can craft it (its not so hard just apply basic math to the schimatics) its waaaay better to build it yourself.
as far as plastic vs. plastic vs. plastic it all depends on what you like. the xpvc im getting can resist up to 150 degrees of heat and is just as strong (if not stronger) as melamin and weighs half as much.

Re: Polypro Vs PVC
Absylux ABS is a low cost engineering plastic that is easy to machine and fabricate. Absylux is an ideal material for structural applications when impact resistance, strength, and stiffness are required. It is widely used for machining pre-production prototypes since it has excellent dimensional stability and is easy to paint and glue. Natural (beige) and black Absylux are FDA compliant for use in food processing applications.
General purpose ABS Plastic is a rigid thermoplastic with a combination of properties that make it ideal for the widest range of applications. We stock general purpose ABS Plastic with the standard "haircell" finish
• Outstanding formability
• Very high impact strength
• High tensile strength and stiffness
• Excellent high and low temperature performance
• Resistant to many chemicals and plasticizers
• Excellent ductility
• Lends itself to dielectric welding
information by PLEXIGLASS sheet, Acrylic, UHMW, Lexan polycarbonate, Fiberglass sheets, Plastic & Plexiglass Fabrication, Weld-On Plexiglas Glue, PTFE
I found the 4'x8'x1/4" sheets of abs locally for $63.93ea.
