I have heard that a rubbermaid tub can be used as an inexpensive way to house a snake. I have a very large rubbermaid container that I used to use to store and mix seawater for my shark tank. Since I have now sold the shark and tank, I now have the tub and nothing to use it for.
Can I use this type? It is a green plastic tub with a snap on top.
How do I convert it to something capable of holding a snake? How do I vent it? Can I do anything to allow me to view what is inside?
Any ideas would be really helpful. Thanks.

Hi there steve! Welcome to redtailboa.net!
I have used rubbermaids for a good while now with no problems. Just a couple of things...
Do like lfnavyguy says and get clear ones. That green one would make a great feeding box though! You can either do like he says and heat it with a heating pad or do like I did and build a rack with heat tape and a thermostat.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I got the tips to customize my rubbermaid tub I bought for a spare housing from SnakePool. He give me all the tips I needed. I just bought a digital camera so I could get a few pics of it up today or tomorrow. You could take a box cutter or jigsaw and cut out a vent in the lid, then get some hardware cloth, drill holes and tie it down with cable ties. This is very secure and works great with a heat lamp or just for ventilation. The rubbermaid tubs look pretty nice done this way and work great for me. Even though the temps can sometimes be pesty, but it's not really that hard. They still work great for me.
