Other than a moderately sized sand boa or rosy boa, not really anything. A Children's python would be okay for a short while, but I wouldn't house a large adult in a 20.

A 30GL is like the mininum for an adult children's python. It would be better to go ahead and get like a 55GL so you don't have to keep spending money once it outgrows it.

in a 20 long.
I would house a very young ball python....
actually I would house all the smaller species of snakes....but only while they are young.
I would not house a larger species or an adult.
OR
even better....a leopard gecko....no real need to transfer it when it gets big..

but that is just me...........and I am not an expert...

What are you looking to spend?
There are lots of smaller pythons and boas that would be ok in a tank that size.
Sand/rosy,rubber boas
Spotted,Stimsons,childrens pythons
Savu pythons, burrowing python, new world dwarf python (Loxocemus, it that is still their genus).

No it wasnt.. That thread is "what can I keep in a 20 gal long". It also asks about housing a boa or python in it. Same question, just worded different.....
Why do people post the same question two or more times? Cant they wait at least long enough for someone to come along and answer the first before reposting it on another thread?

LLL reptiles has them for 99.00 + shipping Childrens Python Try seeing if any breeders have any also, and please research them before you buy one so you know what you are getting into.

1 sq foot of cage floor per linear foot of snake = minimal but exceptable caging for most boids. If you keep them this tight...Please make sure they get out and excercised often. If you haven't gotten to geometry in school yet, measure the width and the length of the cage and multiply then together for floor area. so 4Lx2W=8sq feet so you can house a boid up to 8 feet....allthough most people would give them a bit more room than that but that's why they call it a minimum right?

Anyway...Use this formula and do a little web browsing and search out species and find out potential growth. Consider snakes like greyband kingsnakes. They are beautiful and wonderful snakes and rarely get over 3 feet. gartersnakes? I don't like em but some people do. You can really get whatever you want as long as you can take care of it at it's adult size. Just keep in mind that if the snake outgrows the cage that you will need to get a larger one later but that isn't such a bad thing...new cage means old cage is empty now and you can get another snake

Most states have a minimum cage size, based in the length of the snake. In Florida, for instance, the perimeter measurement of the cage must at least equal the length of the snake. acording to Barron,s Pythons manual.
A general rule of thumb, a snakes cage should be about two thirds as long as the snake, and about half as wide as the snakes length.
I read this info from a couple of books that Ive been collecting.
I hope it helps. Good luck.
Personally, I like making my own cages.
Peace.

UMM IF I were to follow such..It would mean that my snake which is 4' could be housed in a 1' square cube. [ Either that or I need more sleep atm and confused it...lol] I DON'T THINK SO ! Not only would the snake NOT have enough living space, but I also would not be able to provide the proper temp gradient etc for the snake to be properly housed at all.

Note : To reach the perimeter you would add the length of each side together. In the case of a 1' square...just 1 ' x's 4 [ sides] = 4' total perimeter.

Sooo ..Either I missed it totally here OR this is another prime example of just why some people should not be making laws related to herps at all

the book that I got said exactly that.
it was copywriten in 1997
on the book it says:
all inquries should be addressed to :
Barrons educational series, inc.
250 wireless boulevard
Hauppauge, NY 11788
This is one of the books that I got from the pet store.
I dont know why someone would keep a snake in that small of a cage anny ways its just common sense, but they must have minimum caging requirements in places where some people do not have common sense.

Rubbers are cool little things....but they burrow, so ya need a taller tank, I guess. But they can be housed in relatively small enclosures.

Hehe, I keep a pair of rough-scaled sand boa breeders in a 20 long. Plenty of space for them... but they are one of the smaller sand boa species.
