New enclosure I started tonight!!!
Well I saw Owen's thread on the arboreal rubbermaid enclosure and it gave me the itch to build. So tonight I started this for my Guyana......... (5'9" H x 6'6" L x 2' Deep)
If anyone has any suggestions I am open to them as far as material for the inside. I am thinking maybe shower wall material??? I am just using 2x4's for the framework and use 5/8 Plywood or something on the outside so I can finish it with a nice stain. The one thing I may need advice on is a door design. Im thinking of making a frame for glass because glass is cheaper than plexi last time i checked. Let me know what you think and be honest, I know you will!!!! I will be updating pics as i progress.

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
Darn Owen! I will more than likely be starting one on Friday after seeing his thread...
BTW so far it's looking nice! Not any suggestions, seeing as I'm new to customs myself Good luck and keep us updated!

Glass is a pain, but plexi is expensive. Plus, I don't like how plexi looks on my enclosure.

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
lol, i make people do things haha
Glass isnt too difficult. Alot of people will cut glass for you free or cheap. It can cost a bit to buy the glass though, but usually if you buy it, they will cut it too. Its about the same price as plexi

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
Yeah i am starting to wish I never sold the melamine enclosure i made. But I have wanted something huge like this for a while so even if it takes me 2 months to get the $$ together to finish it, its well worth it. I feel bad for having her in a glass tank right now shame on me....
This was her old home.....her new one will be 3x as big!!! So she will thank me soon! The volume of the Melamine enclosure was only 16 cu ft, this one will be 75.9 cu ft!!!!

My god give her to me for a week and she will enjoy camping, and snakes.
She will also learn how to rock climb.
Edit:
Drop her off on a cliff and leave her some gear and instructions on how to use it.
And you will be set.

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
Jeesh how I wish I could. She's a lazy ____ . Sits on her ____ all day behind the computer (works from home). Then when I get home she continues to sit on her ____ all night. I'm wondering why we have a treadmill??? I just hijacked my own thread Back to enclosures....enough badgering the overweight, lazy, annoying, significant other. Im terrible. But atleast Im good at it. My advice to all you youngins on here. Dont have kids unless you are married and in love. Ok rant is over. Enclosure, enclosure, enclosure....

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
My honest opinion is that I think you have a great GTP, arboreal monitor, or water dragon enclosure going on there.
Your Guyana is swiftly going to outgrow the semi-arboreal stage and at that time, you'll have a lot of unused space in that enclosure. I'd say just make an enclosure like the first one you did, just lengthen it to suit an adult Guyana. 6' x 2' x 2' or so.
Still, no matter what you put in it, I'm sure it's going to come out looking fantastic. I'm fond of big cages, especially naturalistic ones. When you build them though, it's important to take into account how long the cage will be used for the animal, and the animal's future habits.

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
Yeah I actually thought about that, maybe making it 3 ' wide at the bottom. But really she is only 40" right now so she will get some good use out of it until I can afford an AP enclosure. However I do plan on putting shelving in it so she has a good amount of surface area. Also I think the "optimal boa enclosure" being only 2 feet high is something that breeders started in order to save space. Im sure they dont just lay around on the ground in the wild all their life either....So Im sure it could be a fine life home for her. If i do end up getting an AP enclosure and decide to breed then i will move her into a 6x3x2 or something more suitable for breeding. Until then, Thanks for the input!

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
No worries, not trying to discourage you or anything. If you put in a lot of shelf space should be good. I'm excited to see how it turns out, no matter WHAT you put in it.

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
Heck yeah I cant wait until I get a chance to go to Lowes and get some material. Hopefully I will have time tonight. I definately plan on getting some GTP's someday, so this may end up becoming the future home to some Merauke's or Jaya's!!!!

Re: New enclosure I started tonight!!!
I cant wait to start building my own enclosures for my redtails. Right now they are teeny-tiny so I have some time.
I love seeing people build cages. It's very entertaining and I learn alot of techniques myself along the way.
