Help how do u lower humidity?

i have a question....
in my new tank that i set up for my nicaraguan boa for some reason the humidity says 80% on my acurite digital thermometer, and this seems weird because in my old tank it was 40% with the same thermometer. it has a screen top, which is also weird in this case, and i was wondering how to lower humidity in his tank.

Re: how do u lower humidity?

Increase air flow into the enclosure. If you have tape or plastic on the screen top, remove some of it. Or just make the water source smaller. I think those are the two easiest ways.

Re: how do u lower humidity?

Unless you keep your boa in a sauna-like room, very damp, there should be no possible way your humidity is actually that high, especially in a tank with a screen top. Sounds like the hygro may be damaged...is there any chance some water got into the sensor/probe? That'd do it.

Re: how do u lower humidity?

idk if its broken it was working fine and it didnt get wet its not like its stuck it adjusts and everything its one of those digital ones made by the brand acurite. i think the humidity is measured by the slot at the bottom not at the probe theres no opening in the probe for it to measure the humidity

When was the last time you changed the battery? When batteries get weak digital measuring devices can be way off, before they will not work. When we check faucet temperatures and tub temperatures at work we double check with an old fashioned thermometer to be sure our digital ones are not running on weak batteries.

If it is a digital thermometer and hygrometer you can double check the temperature with a temp gun and see if it is working well or not.

Re: how do u lower humidity?

80% Humidity with a screen top? WOW. I have leachie enclosure with two very small lines of holes and the stay at 80% with LIGHT misting every 2 days and a bowl of water in there. I highly and I mean HIGHLY doubt you are at 80% humidity with a screen top. I have screen tanks set on end so they have a solid glass top but screen front and I mist them twice a day and they have bowls of water and they dont go anywhere NEAR 80%. Get a new device IMO
