Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
I may have to go online. I tried Home Depot, who knew what it was but said they didn't have any, Advance, where the girl checked in the parts, not on the shelves, and I didn't think to correct her. No for Radioshack. The guy at Best Buy knew exactly what I was talking about and told me to get in touch with someone at the university. If this doesn't pan out, I guess I'm going online.
It's frustrating 'cause I thought this was a tool used in multiple industries so to speak.

Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
Would a fish tank thermometer be appropriate for heat mat surface temperature?

Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
At the risk of sounding silly, I'm just curious...why not? What I mean is the kind that stick on the glass, like a thick sticker almost...is it just not accurate for this?

Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
Okay, still looking for an answer to the above question but my daddy found me a Radioshack brand one for $20 at the other Radioshack...I forgot we have two. So...problem solved I think.

Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
Yes I found the one on Radioshack's web site, I don't like the small cheap ones. For me personally I don't want one of the pocket types. Though thanks for finding the one on Autozone's site that's more of what I was expecting. I don't mind paying $40-60 for one. I'm a full believer in you get what you pay for. I was wanting something like this:

from Amazon.com: Raytek Mini Temp Non-Contact Thermometer Gun with Laser Sighting: Home Improvement
I was like Jane I didn't really want to order online. I wanted to go to a store look at it, feel it and then decide if I want it.

Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
True you often get what you pay for, but I'm willing to give the inexpensive one a shot, since I can simply drive to the store and return it should it not function properly.

Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
Fish tank thermometers read ambient temperatures, so they need to be submerged in the surface you want to read. Placing them on top of a surface will just read the air temp around the surface. The only other way to get a surface temp would be with a sharp test probe you can actually stick in the surface.

Re: Where can I get a temp gun???
Raytek are the first and last name in IR thermometers.
The link that VexalUntil posted earlier is a great one.
