Heating Pannels Vs. Heating Lights
Who preferes what and why?
Im starting to lean towards heating pannels on thermostats, because they are cheaper in the long run, and can keep a more stable temperature gradient, and if your animals need UV you could always use florescents during the day to let them get the UVB they need. I hope to convert over once i get some more money. light bulbs can get pricey and if they burn out your cage looses heat. but i do enjoy having my enclosures lit up.
but could i use the pannels for the heating, and use a regular strip light just to light the cage up, for my animals that dont need UV? just to kind of light it up during the day.

Re: Heating Pannels Vs. Heating Lights
Heat panels provide a larger basking area than heat lamps. Heat panels also don't dry the moisture out of the cage like a CHE/bulb will. Panels are also designed to heat "things" not the air. The reptile will get more out of it that a bulb. Finally, they last a billion times longer than a bulb. Well worth the money IMO.

very true.
im thinking they are the better way to go.
know a place i can get some good heating pannels and a good thermostat..
can you hook a thermostat to a timer set to lower temps at a certain time? to lower the temps at night?

the herpstat nd from Spyder Robotics is the best bang for the buck. As it has a built in night drop. I have also used helix thermostats before. but In my opinion the herpstat is better. I have had the helix fail before, but never had a herpstat fail.

Re: Heating Pannels Vs. Heating Lights
I prefer CHE. I can hook up a few and only use what I need. Then I can get a hot basking spot and a cool spot in the cage also.
