Heat source for custom enclosure
So, I b uilt my custome enclosure out of 1/4 brownboard/hardboard and lined it with linoleum. I was hoping to use Flexwatt heat tape at 17"x36" attached under the enclosure. My concern is that an employee at the local reptile store said that they don't think the tape will come through the brown board and linoleum... They reccomended a 250W ceramic heat bulb... My question for you professionals is whether or not the tape will be just fine or if I should go with the single ceramic 250W bulb?... Advice needed and greatly appreciated.. Thanks to all!

Re: Heat source for custom enclosure
Can you post a pic of the cage and give the dimensions? Depending on size, ventilation, and height, heating will vary. I only use over head heating. My 6' x 3' x 5'T boa cage is heated with one 150W CHE and one 60W night heat bulb.

Re: Heat source for custom enclosure
if its tall, like anything over 18 inches in my mind i would go with some overhead, but if you want to save space get a radient heat panel, it cost more but lasts like 20 years and goes on the inside ceiling of the cage

Re: Heat source for custom enclosure
The tank is 4'Lx2'H'2W... Would love to take pics but we lost our camera at the pumpkin patch this weekend lol... Does not seem like I can install the heat tape inside the tank, that's why I was hoping to put it on the bottom like a UTH..

Re: Heat source for custom enclosure
If you are bent on an under tank heat source make a false bottom.
Put the heat source inside the cage and cut a piece of plexi glass to fit snuggly over it and the bottom of the cage. As long as the snake can not lift it up or get between it you should not have any problems.
