Switching heating systems!
Ive finally decided to take the plunge and switch heating systems from the old style hood and bulb type to the Radiant heat panels and have several questions for those of you more modern then I that already use them.
1) What is the best source of lighting when using the RHPs. I know that the RHP provides all the needed heat but I dont want my cages to be dark.
2) What thermostat would you recommend that is well priced and works well?
3) I have a few glass style aquariums that I eventually hope to phase out but can RHPs be used on them as well?
4) How hard are RHPs to deal with? Installation and the such mainly.
And of course any other advice would be totally welcome as well as any warnings or horror stories about them, I really like to know what Im getting into as I do want it to be the best for my zoo
Thanks in advance!

Re: Switching heating systems!
All of my cages have them. I think they are great. They are easy to install, though I don't know if I have ever heard of anyone using them on a glass cage. As far as lighting goes, I just use the natural light that comes in from the window. Mine are all hooked to Herpstats, but there are numerous thermostats that work just as well if not better.

Re: Switching heating systems!
My snake room doesnt get much natural lighting at all concidering its facing a 60 foot wall >.<
So a good non heating light source is a must for me.
ALSO...
Flexwatt vs RHP
Theres several things I dont like about the Flexwatt but Ive heard of many people using it with out any problems. I personally think RHP will be better for me but hey, Im open to ideas.

Re: Switching heating systems!
If you can provide your room in which you snake(s) are located that is around 80 degrees, I'd just go with flexwatt.

Re: Switching heating systems!
I really...REALLLY..dislike felxwatt. Just the ideal of basically making it myself and the fact that its not UL approved.
Also I would have to run the base board heaters in the room constantly (even in the summer for some reason) to get room temps that high and I hate that thing as well lol.
Ive pretty well decided that I'm going with RHP but the main thing is lighting suggestions for inside the cage. Would a rope light work? Or perhaps some little LEDs stuck to the side of the cage?
Thanks for all your help so far, totally appreciate it!
