Sterilite craft cart baby racks...
I finished this project a few months back, just never got any pics up till now.
These craft carts from Target work great. I put three of them connected together, for a total of 21 containers...they each have their own lid and are escape proof...
I built a frame around it with 1x2's, it still wobbles a bit--if I do another one I will just put a sheet of plywood on the back to give it some stability...and I left the 1x2's long, I am going to put a few storage shelfs on top of it...
I am the ultimate fan of Reflectix insulation, so this rack got the full treatment...a lot of work but well worth it considering the heat is only one 18' length of Big Apple Herp's heat rope, running behind the containers...it uses 50 watts...and the temps stay good...even with the room at 74F I still get a 88-90 hot spot on the back end of each container...
So untill my babies get here, I am using it as temporary housing for my smaller boas and pythons whenever I clean their cages...(that is why there is a big ball python at the top...)

The three carts themselves were $100, the heat rope was around $25, and the rest of the materials I would say another $40...
The thermostat I already had...
So about $165 for a 21-bin baby rack.....not bad at all...

Not bashing, I'm just curious. Why do people house their reptiles in such confined places? I just don't understand how anything can live in a shoebox. Its like a human living in a bathroom for the rest of their life.

it's because snakes can live long lives in tight confines. sure, extra space is POSSIBLY nice to them, but they show no ill effects from living in small spaces. they are NOT humans.
if they were, it would be like humans eating whole rats and chicks once a month or so. it would be like humans brumating for months out of the year. it would be like a lot of things that humans aren't.
you'll see more negative results from having a cage that is too large.

Re: Sterilite craft cart baby racks...
Humans can live a longtime in small spaces, eating the minimum food, etc.
And the analogy I used wasn't applied to eating chickens. *Sigh* extraneous examples...
To large is understandable, but a 16 quart rubbermaid is just outrageous...

Thats the answer that I was looking for. Just something simple and helpful.
Not sarcastic and rude like the other.
Thanks

lol, are you a 4 year old girl, by chance?
mine was pretty simple and pretty helpful. i figured you were saying in a passive aggressive way "those are too small".
those craft boxes are great for smaller snakes that like to dig and basically all neonates. they have a couple of square feet of floor space and the low profile usually helps snakes feel secure, so you don't need a hide, just a short water bowl and some substrate. i picked some up at target last year. still have them too. they're tough, easy to clean and good on available space.
sorry to have been so vicious with my mean reply
