Need hide box
Allright so here is the deal. I have seen some plastic type hide boxes that are great things. I love them. What I need though is an XXXXXXL type of when. one that will work for snakes from 5' - 15' range. Yeah need a big one. Anyone know of any makers of such things. I am tired of my Retic destroying her cardboard ones by not hiding in them but SITTING on them. Or doing other other things to them with nearly the same spelling. LOL

Re: Need hide box
5'-15' is wide range. But for 5-8' I would suggest a kitty litter box and cut out a hole on the side. I use those for my 6 footers.

Re: Need hide box
Go to the masonry section of a building supply store (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc) and look for "Mortar Pans." They are black plastic, come in a number of sizes (all bigger than a litter box), and can be cut with a utility knife to make openings.
The best part is they're way cheap. You can get a great hide for an 8 footer for about $6.

Re: Need hide box
I need to smooth the edges as much as possible though. Since my 8' retic likes to rub her nose to nothing. Any suggestions?

The cuts on a mortar pan are nice and smooth if you use a new blade in the utility knife. No rough edges at all on the one's I've made.

You can also use a red hot butter knife or even a propane torch to smooth out the roughness of the cut edges.
Another place to look for large containers of this type is a Livestock Feed Store. A plastic sheep water tank would hold a really big snake.
