I just got a vison cage model 432. The dimensions are 56"x36"x18". In case you arent familiar with the vision, they have an inset that is made for a heating lamp. I already mounted a flourescent light for the day/night cycle (it stays pretty dark in there even during the day). My question is what would you guys expect a good wattage for a CHE to be? I already have a 100 watt that I think will be too much for this cage because the hot spot would most likely be around 105 or 110 directly under the CHE. I was thinking that a 30 watt CHE would do the job, but I havent had experience with this kind of cage. What do you guys who use larger cages especially visions use?

You can always turn a hot one down with a rheostat dimmer or thermostat. You cannot however turn a low wattage one up higher....so go with the hotter one and plug it into something to control it by.

I have that exact cage with a 125W heat pannel hooked up to thermostat. Then for the lighting I use a self balisted flouresent bulb in the resessed light shroud built into the cage hooked up to a timer. I don't even need to use a heat pad with the heat pannel and there is no concentrated hot spot. The flouresent bulb works great because it barely effectst the cage temps weather it is on or off (I use a 11W one I bought at Ikea for $5).

Thats a great idea Julius, why didnt I think of that? Its so obvious. I think is the best option for me.
NYCSpeedcore, I am interested as to how you installed the heat panel. Got any pics? I havent had any experience with heat panels so I dont know much about them. Is it on the top or the bottom of the cage?

I don't have any pictures, but all you have to do is use two screws to attach it to the top of the cage. In order to direct the power cord out of the cage without makeing a big hole in the side of the tank I cut off the power plug and then put a new $2 dollar replacement one on.

Thats basically what I did with the flourescent light. I think I am gonna try the CHE with thermostat and see how that goes. Thanks for the info though.
Does anyone else use larger visions?

I have the same cage. I have a Pro Products PH125 heat panel on a thermostat. A little expesive but works great. There are no hot spots and provides a gradient temp across the cage.
By the way thanks NYCSpeedcore for your help.

Well, I didn't move them or rename them, but since we have a forum for caging/housing for reptiles/husbandry items, it seems the logical place for a post of this nature.
FAQ has evolved to become more "FAQ about RTB's".

It was prolly moved since the content is more related to being in the caging forum.
Plus with the changes that were recently made in the forums, they are all a little more specific in where posts go now.
As for the title, I have no idea there as I don't recall the title as it was.

I see, there are headings above the titles for the posts now. Makes sense.
