Monitor Dirt
Need help with some substrate that holds burrows and moisture well...I was think (read this somewhere) 50% topsoil /25% screened play sand (silica free) / 25% vermiculite and adding water to make it to the desired consistency? Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Monitor Dirt
There was a substrate at PetCo (I know..GASP!!) that looked kind cool..It set up so they can make tunnels..Not sure how good it is..but thought it appeared promising.
As far as substrate..Topsoil is fine

Re: Monitor Dirt
I am hesitant letting any animal dig its own burrow in an artificial environment. The risk of a cave-is too high since it is not a natural media. There is also greatly increased traffic on the burrow roof over a natural burrow. If I were to allow a monitor to have a burrow, I would provide one that was adequately reinforced. Of course, getting a monitor OUT of a burrow could prove problematic and dangerous.
