Figured I would post this for those who want an idea of how to go about building their own herp building or whatever. I never intended on having this new building for myself but it was my dad's idea... lol The new building is basically a garage kit from 84 Lumber... but better than a garage.

..my herp building is 24'x16' and made of wood. It was one of my dad's first building projects so it's not perfect but it was a learning experience for him, and it works great nonetheless.
••Before in 2002 (I never kept any critters in there for as crappy as that building was...used to be a chicken coop)
••After, in summer 2002....

My dad and grandpa

Me and dad

My mom and uncle..who is very very dark because he did a lot of roofing that summer.. lol

My mom, brother, dad and uncle

The few critters I used to have... now a total zoo that takes up every amount of space on every wall. lol

It needs painted real bad... but still looks good nonetheless.
It has:
••A full basement
••1" plywood floors with 2"x8" joists underneath to support the floor, along with a main beam and a couple steel supports of some kind.
••Sheetrock walls with wood studding inside the walls.
••3 windows, main door and storm door
••Pink fiberglass insulation inside the walls and ceiling (needs some in the floor.. the floor gets pretty cold in winter)
••Electricity/lighting
••Running water w/ sink and garden hose outlet outside the building
••Gas w/ small heater for winter
••Small window A/C for summer
••Dehumidifier for winter w/ drain hose into the sink so it can run continuously and keep the room dry
••Vinyl-type floor
••Some kind of plywood-type wood on the outside of the building..can't think of what it's called at the moment.
••Average winter temperature of the room: 75F
That's just with the heat not turned up very high at all.. the majority of the heat comes from all the heat lamps and other heat sources in the room.
••Average summer temperature of the room: 75F
••The only problem I had with sheetrock walls and high humidity was because I didn't have a dehumidifier the first winter I used the building and had my turtles in a pond inside...large bodies of water inside a room is a big nono unless you have a dehumidifier... so I got a lot of mold/mildew but that all got taken care of and rid of, and I don't have that problem anymore with the dehumidifier.
••I also have a ceiling fan, track and recessed lights in the room.
••There are about 3-4 outlets per wall.
••There are about 4 breaker switches:
1. Controls 2 out of 4 walls
2. Controls the other 2 out of 4 walls
3. Controls ceiling lights
4. Controls water heater
Each breaker switch is 20amps, with 12gauge wire used for all the wiring in the building.
