Flexwatt questions.
I have decided to start using flexwatt as the heat source for my snakes as the heat lamps make keeping the humidity up a real pain.
I have had a 3'x11" peice of flexwatt covered with plexiglass running in an
4x2x2 (empty) cage for a week now. The flexwatt gets to around 90 degrees. The ambient temp only gets up to about 73-75 degrees. My question is do I still need to run some other heat source to get the ambient temperature up? Will they get enough heat from laying on the tape?
By the way I will keep a thermostat on the flexwatt to keep it from getting to hot.
Thanks

I think that I am going to istall a small (40-60 watt) infared and see how that effects the ambient temps.
I will let you know whow it works.

Is the tank in a room that the temps can be raised? When mine was in my garage for a few days, just a 2 foot section of flexwatt on the warm side with a 60 watt red bulb on the cool side kept my temps inside the cage at the right level, even in 50* weather.

Hi,
I have flexwatt in my cage also, but I have an heat panel too. I have both on the same side of the cage. I keep the ambient between 82-88 effortlessly with this setup.

all of my cages only have flexwatt in them, and they all hold ambient temps really well.
Is the top of your cage open or covered? If its open, all your heat is going up and out.

i decided to investigate all the possible heat sources for my new cages that will be built in a couple months.I came to realize that the flexwatt was not the source of heat i wanted to use.My cages will be stacked so i cant use lights either.I then checked out pro-products heat panels.I decided that would be the best solution as they emit plenty of heat down to easily heat my 5.5' by almost 3 foot wide cage thats 20inches tall.I called and they recommended me a panel size and price.I will also be using a kane heat mat on the bottom for belly heat and to creat a warm spot.Pricey? yes ,it cost more for the heat panel and kane mat compared to flexwatt, but in the end if you plan on keeping your snakes for a long time, you will slowly get your money back in electric bills.I just didnt like the idea of puting flexwatt permanently between two panels and siliconing it to make it waterproof, what do you to if it needs to be fixed or replaced etc.
