Best lighting for small Arboreal Cage
Hey all,
I have a 12x12x16 Barr's arboreal cage and looking for the best way to light it. Do any of you have any suggestions? I have been looking at rope lighting as well as seeking a small flour. fixture that would fit in that size cage.
Anyone have any tips?
Thanks!

I have a small flourescent tube fitting that I use on my 18"x18"x24"H arboreal tanks in fits into the hood that I made for the top of the tank its about 10" long and 5 watts. I place a piece of paper on top of the tank to diffuse the light into the enclosure. I believe they are normally used for under cupboard lighting in kitchens.
Cheers

Nick,
Thanks for the tip. Where did you get that small of a tube? I have been looking around and not finding any smaller than 22"...but I know they have to be out there!
Thanks!

In the UK they are just in the lighting section of the DIY shop in my case B&Q as I say they are the ones used under cabinets, kitchen units, or even small display cabinets. They are known as slim flourescent link lights over here they are 275mm x 44mm high x 20mm wide. See picture below.
Cheers
Nick

DIY,Lowes, and wall mart have them. Lowes has a cool dimmer for ten bucks that you can attach. Its only an off, dim , and high setting. But its small and pretty cool. They also have a small light that swivels so you can aim it slightly to the back (or whever you want)

Cool, thanks! Do you know if that little swivel light gives off much heat?
Thanks again!

I also have a few BARRs cages. I have my 20x20x20 (which houses a green tree python) set up with rope lights run in the inside (around the ceiling and in front around the door) to provide indirect lighting. It seems to work very well since the rope lights I use are indoor/outdoor and so are weatherproof. The lights provide some warmth as well but don't get burning hot. The ropelight enters the back of the cage through a 1/2" hole (slightly larger than the diameter of the rope light itself).
The way I attached them was to drill a series of small holes in the ceiling of the cage and thread tie-wraps through the holes to hold the ropelight.
The ropelights work with a dimmer, too
