Night Drop
How important is it to let the temps drop during night? i mean what would be wrong if the temps stayed constant during night and day? for example, can i have a 90 degrees hot side and 79 degrees cool side all the time,
I only ask this because its hard for me to do that using only a dimmer on a uth and a che, and a fluorescent. unless i use lighting to aid heating in the day time, but fluorescent light doesn't provide much heat.
any thoughts?
thanks

depending on how much heat the light is providing and how your humidity level is, i would discourage the use of a flourescent light. If you can save $70, get a ranco or JC thermostat. They are real easy to use.

I would think that the room temperatures would drop at night time...lowering the tank temperatures automatically. Thats what happens with my setups.
To answer your question, I would try to give it a night drop, but I think that it most important to provide them with the proper temperature gradient (proper basking temps, proper ambient temps) They can thermoregulate by themselves.
I just cant understand why the daytime temps are the same as the nighttime temps...

For the snakes that are in bedrooms, I close the door during the day. This keeps a lot of the generated heat in the room. At night I leave the door open and temps usually drop by 4 or 5 degrees, more now that it's winter. I have a few snakes in on open loft and I turn on a high ceiling fan at night. It's on low enough to not cause much draft, but it does cool things down. I think it's better to drop temps at night, though I know plenty of people who don't, and haven't had any problems.

I use night time drop thermostats on some of my tanks mainly as a cost saving over night, not that it makes a huge difference in costs. I beleive it is more important if you are trying to condition the animals in preparation for breeding.
Cheers

Temps
Personally I keep all my snakes set up to daytime temps, I'm not worried about conditioning for breeding cycles or the like so leave the set ups constant. All my guys are happy, eating, thermoregulating and shedding happily.....

You all gave me good solutions to have a night drop with my current setup. I guess getting a good thermostat will fix my problem. Thanks
But nobody accually answered my question of how important is the night drop, except Nexus. Is it only important if i'm preparing the snake for breeding? Or is it just good husbandry and i should just shut my mouth and try to get the temps to drop during night?
