Cypress mulch.....advice needed.
Howdy everybody, I was wondering what brand cypress mulch you all use for your enclosures. I've realized that for the amount a bag of Reptibark costs, I could get an industrial sized sack of cypress mulch from the home improvement place. What kind do you use, and is it enough to just bake it in the oven to make sure it's clean and parasite-free? What temps are good for baking? Thanks!

I skipped over reading about the baking.. I don't bake mine.
There are occasional harmless bugs in it that will gather and feed on fecal material if the snake defecates while I'm not home, but I've never seen mites in it. The bugs I'm talking about are no danger to the snake, and I would be willing to bet that a lot of the 'mites' people find in mulch are the same kind of bugs. Now aspen or other beddings in a pet store could be a different story, as it is likely kept near animals that have mites.
Several friends use it for many more snakes and cages than I do, and have never had mites in it, either.

Most likely a soil mite of some type; there are so many different families of them that I wouldn't even begin to pretend I might know which one.. lol
