Dimmers?
Can i purchase a already made basic dimmer at lets say home depot? I dont trust my self making one. Otherwise im going to have to pay $18 for a rheostat.

Yes, you can. I got mine at Wal Mart. I think they were 5-10 a piece (if that much). They can be used on anything that plugs in. Heat source, lights, etc... They work just fine.

Yep! What Rob said. A dimmer is just a rheostat. Just make sure that if you're hooking up a heating device, that you monitor it for a while to adjust the level to be where you want it to be.
