Fake rock
Hey guys, I'm thinking about building a custom cage sometime in the next few months so I'm doing a little research. I'm first thinking about interrior design, does anyone have links to pics that they can share of of natural looking interriors that have caught their eyes and/or directions on how they were built?
Second, I'm thinking about making the entire back/sides of the cage look like fake rock or stone bricks. Does anyone know materials that I can use to make it look as natural as possible and won't be harmful to the snake?
Does anyone know any real plants that can be used that won't attract bugs and aren't harmful to the snake?
So far, I'm thinking about making the cage 7 or 8ft long, 2ft4in wide and maybe 4ft tall. I'm not getting into breeding or anything like that, so I'd like to make a really nice looking display cage that looks as natural as possible.

4 feet tall may be hard to heat.

I honestly don't think it will be too bad. It's pretty warm here in Phoenix already. Heck, it's 82 out right now, all I have to do is open the windows in my place and the temp would be good. I'd have no problem with a heating pad or 2 on the bottom and if more is needed I could use a heating light inside (I'd make a overhaning rock on one of the sides and put the light up inside of it with some kind of screen over it so the boa couldn't burn himself.

There was a guy here a while back, did some really interesting work in his custom cage, with, I want to say, fiberglass. I'll see if I can dig that up for you, but being that old, you never know if the pictures remain....

I saw an article where someone made some great rock work for the back of an aquarium out of styro-foam. If you want, I'll try to find it and post a link. They made it sound easy, and it looked great.

I found it. Check these out. There are 3 articles that start out "aquarium background..."

Artificial Rock Walls and Terraces - By NetMax
Tom Miller - "Making Your Own Live Rock" 5/24/98 www.reefs.org
Redirecting...
The last two are more for salt water tanks than anything, but you're looking at the same principle. There's some really good fiberglass sites out there too. I'd probably lean more in that direction, with it being easier to work with, lighter weight, etc. Don't think it's going to insulate too well though.
