Cleaning Ceramic Flower Pots

Recently I bought a couple of ceramic flower pots for my BP to use as hides. They are really cheap and my BP is using them. The only thing I am unsure of is cleaning them properly. When she urinates on them it is pretty hard to get the smell out. They do seem to pull fluid in and hold it for some time. I am sure bleach would work but I am concerned it will be absorbed and give off odors/fumes that will hurt her.

Any ideas? Would coating them with some type of paint or glaze of some sort keep them from absorbing fluids and still be harmless for my BP? Any suggestions would be great.

I think a good long soak in warm soapy water would work for cleaning the pots... I don't know if they could be sealed with polyurethane though.

Thanks Adrya. I haven't tried soaking them for an hour or two. I would probably try this but my BP will sometimes pee every night for five days straight. Thats a pain to soak those big pots every day for a couple hours. There has to be a better way.
