Heating and Cooling options for a snake room

I am in the process of converting 220 sq ft of my detatched garage into a snake room. The only real problem I am having is determing the best way to heat and cool the area. It is sealed off from the rest of the garage and insulation is scheduled to be blown into the exterior walls as one of the final stages in this conversion process.
I would really love to hear some suggestions from you guys. I've come up with several ideas, but I would like to stay away from anything that would require I loose a lot of wall space (kickboard heaters).

Ted

Are you planning on reflooring the area as you could put under floor heating in and tile on top. What sort of ambient temperature are you trying for.

Cheers
Nick

if you have an outside wall, why not a window unit cut into the wall, they have small ones that operate on 110v that do heat and cooling, in a well insulated room you may only have to loose a 2x3ft area higher up, perhaps above a door?

thats what i've seen alot of people do in freestanding buildings.

that may work okay here in TX, I know it gets colder up there, so it may not produce enough heat.

I am reflooring the area nick, but underfloor heat may be a little out of my price range. I'm already running water and electric to the building and my budget is kinda tight. I'm not trying to skimp, don't get me wrong, but under the floor heat sounds expensive and still leaves me with a hole to fill on the cooling side.
The ambient temp should be around 70-80 as all the cages are heated. I just want it to be controlled so that the cages are not over-working themselves.
I would love something to put in up above a door...that would work great...anyone know what that kind of unit would be called?

sure thing
http://www.airconditioner.com/#

I see them for anywhere from 220 to 400 depending on size, 220sq ft with a ambient of 70-80 shouldnt be too tall a order if you have individual heat in the cages.

its really the cooling thats most important I bet, because in the winter you want to lower them down a bit anyways, and a 70 degree ambient is probably sufficient provided the basking spots are all functional.

My herp building is seperate from the house and I have 3 windows, one of which has a window AC in the summer and a small gas heater attached to the wall under it... keeps the room nice and warm. The building also has insulation, electricity and running water, drywall, etc.

A little gas heater like I have really doesn't take up that much space, if it's placed under a window it works fine in that you don't really place any cages in front of a window anyway.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I think I like frag's idea the best. It certainly fits my needs best. I have a window that I consider a security hazard that I would love to close with that.
I will post pictures when the project is completed and let you guys know what the final decision was!!

dont forget to fortify the window unit somehow, make it impossible to remove from the outside.

I cant wait to see pics!
