I'd like to try aspen substrate, but I have a question for the heating pros (Matt, etc.).
I have a Stanfield heat mat (18" x24") running and a
CHE. The Stanfield paperwork said don't cover it with anything. But it's designed for piglets, so I'm sure it gets covered by fodder and/or piglets.
Obviously, it's not running at full temp (rheostat) so there's not much of a heat issue, and I have a temp probe directly on the Stanfield and keep it at about 85 degrees.
Do you see any problems with having aspen on top of the heat mat? Would you put the aspen all around but avoid covering the mat?
Is there anyone else here using Stanfield mats (or anything comparable) and if so, what do you use for substrate?
Thanks in advance.
