framing a new cage
this question is for anyone who has built their own cage out of showerboard or melomine(?). did you guys frame it with 1x2s or 2x2s? did you frame it from the outside or from the inside? do these questions even make sense? i hope the do, any insight would be fantastic for my soon to be built cage.
thanks

Framed mine with 1 x 2. I'm not following on the inside or outside part of your post.

I am gonna frame mine from 2x4's, but i would said frame it with 2x2 so its the same width u can screw too, and also frame it inside so u don't see it on the outside, It wont take up that much more space and would look alot nicer.

I've used 2x2's on all my Boa caging. I used plywood though, just because melamine soaks up water like a sponge. I have two 6'x2' melamine cages and within 3 months, the melamine warped like crazy after only a few water spills.
I do however use larger rubbermaids now for their soaking dish's. 24" x 16" x 6" to be exact and no more spills. Drill the shower board or melamine on the outside of the frame as well. It just looks better IMO Good luck with your project~!!

I use 1x2's b/c if done right they can be just as strong as 2x2's only cheaper and not as heavy.
as seen here I do a wood frame and then put the tile board on the inside, caulk the edges and do a wood pannel on the outside and seal it.

I think 2x4s would increase the weight tremendously!! I agree, Toker. Mine is made of 1x2's and I can stand on mine. It's nice having a 6x2x2 cage that two people can easily pic up and move around.

Do you have plywood under the showerboard or just the showerboard inside the frame?
How are you creating the space for the flexwatt (assuming that's what you're using)? I was under the impression it needed to be in a space btween 2 boards??
