How much humidity is too much?
I set one of my PVC cages up with Repti Bark and the humidity went from 50% empty cage to... and sitting at about 80%. The is no condensation and no heat, yet. I know too much can be as vbad as too little so any ideas on whetehr this elvel is ok and how to reduce it. The bark is also dry. I will be putting a Suri into the cage possibly next week and want to get everything right befroe she arrives, Thanks

Yea, thats the range I need, but Im a bit at a loss to bring it down. There is no water whatsoever ion the cage yeat, no water dish, and the bedding is dry. I know these types of cages are reputed to hold heat and humitity well, but WOW.

Alot of the time when I do my monthly bedding changes, the humidity spikes for a day or two. It should go down on it's own.......more ventilation will bring it down and if you use a lamp it will drop it too. The reptibark may not feel/look like it has any moisture, but it probaly does have a little and will wear off.

I use bark chips in my Brazilian & Hognose enclosure, before using it I micro wave it to sterilize it and you would be suprised how much moisture comes out of dry looking bark chips.
Cheers

Reptibark doesn't do well with the humidity required to keep a suriname boa happy. It will mold. Where do you live? If you are on the west coast, Lowes, Home Depot or ...Is it American Eagle?..I forget sells eucalyptus mulch. Out here on the east coast, we have cypress. Both are inexpensive and a much better substrate for humidity loving reptiles.

[quote=JuliusSqueezer]Reptibark doesn't do well with the humidity required to keep a suriname boa happy. It will mold. Where do you live? QUOTE]
I live in Nebraska. You mean it wont hold humidity or it wont produce? Im having an issue of too much, oddly enuf. I thought about taking the bedding out and baking it to dry out some of the mositure but havnt yet ( dont know how long or at wat temp lol). As for the mold thing, I was highly encouraged to use reptibark or forest floor because it wouldnt mold lol.
Other then slicing my pretty little PVC cage up for vent holes is there any other method to reduce the humidity some? I ledft the cage open last night in hopes it might dry out as bit, and I just looked ant the humidity was at 55 or so. SO Im gonna heat it up and see waht the levels get to.
NOTE: Im using a RHP on one end with a 2ft section of flex under the other.
