How many 250 watt CHE's?
I am going to be heating a burmese cage with 250 watt Ceramic Heaters.
The cage is 8' long x 2' high x 3' deep.
Do any of you with similar cages use ceramic heaters and if so, what wattage and how many.
I am partial to CHE's, I dont like under tank heaters, or heat pads.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks
Kevin

Lets see you are looking at around 24 square feet floor area. Add in volume of 24" in height and you get total cubic feet (may be wrong since I haven't done cubic anything in a very long time.
As for heating I am not good at psychrometric calculations at all.

I use a 250w at the 1/4 distance and a 150W ant 1/4 distance in from the other end. My tank is only 6 x 2.5D x 2 though. Having said that the pulse stat is pulsing very slowly probably only on for 20 seconds in every 60. These hold the warm end to 90/92 and the cool end 78/80.
My ceramics are trough not bulb so the have a larger emmision surface area.
Hope this is some help.
Cheers
Nick

What does this mean?
What do you cover them with?

My heating is mounted into the lid, with the lid being removable for maintenace. The whole top of the vivarium underneath is covered with steel mesh which means the snake cannot come into contact with it. I have uploaded a picture of different trough stile ceramics below. Mine resembles the smaller yellow one.
Cheers
Nick

Not sure what they cost in the States as I am in the UK I usually pay around £10 or £11 for them so perhaps $17/18 ish. You also need to get a mount for them. I am off out until this evening but when I get back I will take some better photo's of the mount, etc and post them on this thread. just search on the web under FTE Ceramice (FT Full Trough).
Cheers

Below are some photo's showing the reflector, terminal block and CHE, hopefully they are of some help. The heater is the one in my hognose vivarium as it was easier to get to than the boa ones (less junk currently stood on it). The setup is similar. the aluminium box is just to give something to mount the posts on the reflector to, this is replace by a channel directly screwed to the lid on the boa viv.
Cheers
Nick

Can't really say as I have never used RHP's, it's near impossible to get them in the UK for some reason. The only thing I have found similar is the reptile radiator which is only 75w and I wanted more heat than that , and they are £50 ish each, FTE Ceramic + Reflector is only £28. I have always used this type of ceramic so it's sort of the devil I know reasoning, don't want to try something else incase it does not work.
Other members of the forum use RHP's perhaps post another thread asking for their experiences in using them.
Cheers
Nick

Hey nexus, I like those ceramics. I will be dealing with heating the same sized cage and hope that I can find those types and have your support when I need it.
