I spent too much money!
I just got this from the tool truck that stops by my work, i got it for work but use it at home for my snakes sooooooooooo much more... Its nice to know for sure what the temps are and what temp the snake itself actually is! Infra red thermometers rock! (and the dog chases the laser too!)

yeah we use those at work all the time to check engine temps/ exhaust temps... and to check our heaters to make sure there thermo's are calibrated... they are sooo much easier than a standard temp probe
also you can check the temps of your reptiles themselves

Its called an infra red thermometer. this one is a Mastercool, www.mastercool.com , or at most tool/walmart/sears type stores. This one was 100.00 bucks, but i need a much higher quality for work purposes than you would actually need for herp care.

their amazing too because lots of things i work on at work are much to hot to be getting close to safely but with these things there are no concerns about that... take temps from a safe distance
