Flex watt and stacking cages

I have 2 boaphile 421D's with 2X belly heat (flex watt) those to cages stack on top of each other...the flex watt is kinda recessed up in the bottom of the cages on the boaphiles . I also have a Animal plastics cage which is a size down from the boaphiles. The AP cage came with heat cable for belly heat...that wasn't keeping it warm enough in the room I keep the snakes in, so I took it out and replaced it with flexwatt covering 1/2 of the cage. (Under the cage, not in it) Each cage is controlled by its own Johnsons thermostat. Right now I have the Ap cage sitting on top of the boaphiles with a couple of boards under it. My question is.....Can I set the AP cage directly on top of the boaphile without the boards since the flexwatt is not "recessed" into the ap cage... It is just taped on (I would like to take advantage of the heat to help heat the cage underneath it)..OR does it have to have some type of spacers to allow air to move underneath it?
