theory on cages
so the theory is for a female boa, your gonna need a 6' cage for...why. heres how i think of it. how often do you see your guys bigger boas move in thier cage? not often at all. so as long as they are taken out for exercise on a regular basis, and the poop is cleaned regularly, what is the big deal in keeping a boa in a 4'x2' boaphile?all my b oas do is sit in thier cage, and a large boa wouldnt really need a hide. this is a theory that i dont think alot of people have thought of. just curious what you guys think. i know of alot of breeders succesfully kepping 8'+ boas in 4'x2' cages

The only issue I can think of is possibly to do with temperature, as it would be a large boa in a small viv it might make it slightly more difficult for the snake to get all of its body into the temperature zone it wants for thermo regulation. Its not really something I have looked into as I already have mine in a 6'L x 2.5'D x 2'H vivarium.
Cheers
Nick

I have a 7 foot boa and she is active at night, she uses her entire cage (6'x2'x2') and she loves her hides. But i dont really know if they actually need all the space because my 5'7" boa isnt very active in his cage, but he always uses his hides. is there a reason why larger snakes wouldnt need a hide and smaller ones would?

I think it's always good for a boa to have a secure place to hide out. As far as a 6' cage.... I handle mine on a daily basis and don't really see the need for such a large cage.... anyone else?

My snakes use their whole cages except when in blue...then they're pretty still.

A lot of people do keep boas in 4 foot cages, I don't. My snake is 8' long and is active at night. During the day he mostly stays in his hide but at night he's all over the cage.
Every snake should have a hide in my opinion.

Its probably more of a space issue with him, likely he has more than a couple snakes.

Success is relative. A human could live in a closet, and still successfully breed too.
