Hello

I just bought some big flower pots for my boas to hide in. Unfortunity two of them broke, so i used some type of adhesive to bond it together again. Then i sanded the pots down to make sure every spot in the pot is smooth. Now for the question is is it ok to spray paint the pots? I desided to paint just in case the adhesive had any smell to it. The pots are not with the snakes yet, because i was not sure if i could do this safly for my snakes. I'm weird and cheap, for going through all the trrouble of doing this for a and dumb two dollar pot i know. I plan to let the pots sit for about a week before even thinking about putting them in the cages, to let the smells go away.

To me, I don't see any thing harmful as long as you let the vapors cure. As far as spray painting the pots, I wouldn't think that is a good idea.

Originally, I would have said glaze 'em and then have them fired, but the adhesive you have on now wouldn't stand the heat. Untreated clay pots can hold a lot of moisture and possibly mold and mildew. I grow African violets and one of the things that they recommend when using clay pots is to clean thoroughly and to bake them in the oven for a period of time to kill off any undesirables. Without looking it back up again (since I don't use clay pots), A. violets are very susceptible to disease and the clay pots can be carriers.

I know people out there use clay pots as hides. I've seen pictures. So my comments may not even be worth the 2 cents. Comments, oh experienced members?

Thanks i kind of have to use clay pots for my boa, because she loves thems, I always disinfect them before useing them. any ways clay pots are a pain in the but, hard to clean, cut and they break quite offen when cutting. but my boa loves them, there are other hides in her cage like card broad, plastic and wood, but she gos right for the pots every time.

Zxylum, Why do you think spray ppainting the pots are a bad idea, Is it a quality issue or what. Just wondering?

And thanks guys

Some adhesives WILL give off harmfull vapors when they are heated (like under a heat source). do you know what you used? I would call the manufacturer and ask them about the vapors.

I use clay pots in all my enclosures. I re-bleach/bake all of 'em every month when I change substrate.

I think spray paint will definetly give off harmfull oders, I really wouldn't use it. just some .02 for ya -Juggalo
