how do you plan on heating that cage I like the idea. the only problem I see is the metal shelve will retain cold.

I was thinking about that but some low wattage thermostat controlled heat tape would cure that.
The other thing I can say is that it will need a bushing or a possibly deburred after the holes are cut in it to keep from injuring the snake.

shelf bottoms are particle board which are drying as we speak from severl coats of a poliurithane sealer (which works good, low odor and very fast drying...takes days for it to cure properly though). All of the holes were already in the shelves. i have yet to have to drill a hole thru the metal. Im still working on the heating part. My house doesnt get very cold so im not too worried at the moment about teh metal retaining cold, but ill keep an eye on it, thanks. But still not sure on the best way to heat each level.....any suggestions? Thanks for the input

Cool!
The best way to heat it is to play around with it, trial and error style.
Just put temp strips all over and see how it does.
I will say that ya should start at the bottom as heat rises and go from there.

i been doin a lot of thinking about the doors and the most secure wday i think would be sliding doors. So that leaves me with how to install them since theres nothing to attech them to really so i will make a face frame for each of the levels and cut the rails into that for the plexi to slide along. I got the pieces for it cut out last night i just need to assemble them and secure them to the front. hopefully i'll have some more pics by this weekend

Aluminum 'C' channel should work good for the plexi.
Lowes and Home Depot carry it .
It's a little pricey so you might want to go look, think, buy a piece and try before getting it all.
You can go a little long with it so that it extends over the support legs and possibly attach it there with rivits or screws and possibly might have enough clearance in the channel to rivet it all the way across too.

I just noticed something when looking at the screw placement on the sides. You may have already come across this but just wanted to see. You may want to put a few screw in the top part of the holes. It looked like if you tried to pick it up from the sides the panel would move up into the bigger part like the shelves do when you take them out. Since you have moved it around to work on it you may have already seen that, or it may not be a problem. I just thought it might save someone some time if they plan on using the idea.
