You can build a 'shoebox top' lid, like a lot of people use for livestock troughs. Just make a shallow (maybe 6 or 7 inches) wooden box that fits over your tank. Cut out a screened area on one end for your lights, then cut a door out of most of the remaining area, leaving enough on the edges to sit on the rim of the tank. I guess with snakes you probably don't want to rely on the weight of the lid, so I'd use liquid nails or something to stick it on there securely.
Make sure you can clean it though, before you glue it down.
