looking for some money saving ideas

alright heres the deal. im practically stealing a 6'x18"x18" aquarium. i need a top for it. i found one place that has that size aquarium (www.glasscages.com), but its $53 shipping included. anyone have any ideas on how i can get away with it cheaper? it has to have screen top though because i will be using heat lamps

You can build a 'shoebox top' lid, like a lot of people use for livestock troughs. Just make a shallow (maybe 6 or 7 inches) wooden box that fits over your tank. Cut out a screened area on one end for your lights, then cut a door out of most of the remaining area, leaving enough on the edges to sit on the rim of the tank. I guess with snakes you probably don't want to rely on the weight of the lid, so I'd use liquid nails or something to stick it on there securely.

Make sure you can clean it though, before you glue it down.

don't forget you can go to home depot and buy the framing pieces and corner and some screed and do it your self...
