cage for a RTB
what Im thinking of is that im going to build a cage out of melamine.
Its going to be about 5.5 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 3 feet tall with a plexiglass front. then im going to put a UTH under it with florescent ligting on the ceiling of the cage.
does that sound like a good plan for a BCI ?
thanks on ANY input cause im new at this
i know iv already posted this thread im jsut seeing if i can get somemore replies here

BIG cage. I personally think that's way to tall. If you have an adult female boa, then the length and width should be fine, but an adult boa doesn't spend much time in climbing props. A hair over a foot tall should be more then enough... much easier to heat and humidify.

I find that my boas love to climb? and I've seen plenty of others climbing too.
I think if the oppertunities there they will climb, and they are semi aboreal. I dont know your heat source would be able to get through malamime sufficiently, and the prob with florescent lighting is its so bright and unless its well protected your boa would just rip it down, and those tubes go with a big bang. I do love the size though esp the 5ft, I have one under construction but its only just over 4ft. good luck and would love to see a pic when its done.

Like I said... adult boas. Younger boas do love to climb, but most prefer the ground when adults.

woops when i remeasured i realized that 3 feet is way to high. 2 feet would work better. I think that melamine would work as a heating source but mabey i should try flexwatt ? If i was to use florscent lighting i would protect it with wire mesh . Im jsut thinkiing through ideas.
thanks

Youd have to put the flexwatt in the cage for it to work. and cover it with some duct tape so the snake cant come in direct contact. The duct tape would also make it water proof. If youre going to use it get the 11" wide stuff. Then drill a hole at the base of one of the sides of the cage to lead the cord out, a SMALL cord, just big enough for the cord no more. One more thing, ALWAYS use a thermostat with flexwatt or any UTH.

My theroy is that if they have enough support a snake will climb. But either way it should work. How big is the boa?

about 18 inches and im keeping it in a 10 gal tank untill i build this
i know 10 gal is small but its all i got right now.
P.S i know a 5 foot cage is HUGE for an 18 inch snake so im gonna put a divider untill it grows .
also i know it sounds stupid to build such a big cage for such a small snake but id rather have it done before hand instead of having to build another cage and spend more money

Cool cause a huge cage is harder to properly haeat a small snake an d give it the right amount of hides.

Personally i live by flexwatt. I think if you were to add enough hides to the cage, the snake probably wouldnt become stressed out. But a divider is a good idea, never thought of that.
