tank question

for a 10 gal tank for a baby redtail would a 50 watt infared heating light be good for heat or should i get a UTH ? also when i move it into a bigger tank should i use one or the other or both ?

I use red reptile night suns, but please put it behind a cage/guard so your reptile dont burn him/her self if you do use this source of heating, and IMO a thermostat is a must.

what exactly does a thermostate do ? and or would it be easier jsut to get a UTH ?

A thermostate controls the heat and you are able to set it at whatever temp and keep it at that temp. If you dont have a thermostate it can overheat and burn your snake. And I would think a UTH would be easier/better. You can use a UTH and a over head(dome light) if you would like.

If your going to use a thermostat on a light bulb type heater as opposed to ceramic ideally you need a dimming thermostat and not an on/off type as the dimming thermostat will prolong the life of the bulb.
