Lighting in basement ?

I am in the process of building a snake room in the basement, the room i will be using has no windows.

Do the snakes need a day/night cycle?( 12 on 12 off?)

What is the best method to achive this? ( ie.. floresent on timer)

thanks
Gonzo

i personally have my snakes exposed to an indirect day and night- set to my sun rise and sun set.

do these animals have 12 hours of light and 12 dark where they live? i dont think so.... make it as natural as possible to where you live because they're with you- set it to where you are- your sunrise and sun set.

these are animals that dont need to be exposed to the sun for any metabolism purposes, but these are animals that do need some sort of light. its natural to them.

try track lighting on the ceiling- usually pretty cheap and easy to set up. a timer sounds great for this.

any type of lighting would be better than no light at all.

good luck
