Toxic?
I am going to be making some pine custom enclosures during the summer but Im not sure if pine is toxic. I havent heard that it is. Does anyone know any non toxic woods that would be ok? I have also heard plywood is toxic, is that true? Im trying to build a nice enclosure to look at because Aquariums suck and im not really into rubbermaids.

Since I am so new at this, I could be giving you the wrong info. It is my understanding that one needs to completely seal the wood against humidity - so am not sure what difference it makes what kind you use. Unless the wood is going to be exposed to the snake - it should not. But if it is, then the type of wood you used would make a difference as different woods can put off resins and/or oils that can be toxic to animals . . . or if not toxic they can be irritants which will lead to problems. I have seen plywood used in researching this online - but only in conjunctin with being completely sealed using a special paint finish or a poly- finish. Hope this is of some small help. Good luck!

I used oak plywood for my cages- it looks much nicer and takes a stain well. Make sure you seal the wood *very* well. I used a total of 6 coats of polycrylic on the inside of my cages, and so far they are holding up well.
