are you having humidity/shedding issues with a cornsnake?

it should be okay, but you shouldnt have to provide that much moisture for a cornsnake, aside from an appropriately sized water dish.

I would use cypress if I used a substrate at all.
The coconut fiber has been known to harbor bacteria and grow beards with heat and moisture...cypress has tannins which prevent this---and it's much cheaper.

i second the cypress mulch.. we had no problems with shedding with any of our snakes and our baby cali king is goin in blue (i think, but her eyes are blue to begin with..lol)cypress soaks up moisture and retains it great along with the heat. we just spray the cages down once a night to help promote the levels of humidity they need when they're in shed mode.

another great idea is to get a plant sprayer.. we got one from walmart for like $14. and its 20x better than the conventional spray bottle. just gotta make sure its cleaned with anti bacterial soap n all before using it. =D

I also use the "moist/moss hide" for my cornsnake. He LOVES it, he goes in it when hes about to shed or even just to hide. He NEVER soaks in his water dish. But I put coconut fiber on the bottom and then moss on top of that and I have NO problems.

You can keep a cornsnake in a kiln and never have a bad shed. Of course the 1200f temps will likely fry his gizzard but the point is...if your cornsnake is having bad sheds, you have a problem with either mites or malnutrition or something otherwise health related. Most US native colubrids do not require humidity tampering at all. Many will even get sick if too much is provided. Cornsnakes are fairly idiotproof at least to the point where anything NOT blatently stupid (like keeping them in a kiln) they can survive.
