Hi all
I am wonderin about rubbermaids as cages.
Since the misfortune of Lady dying
I have inquired on many new boa's and i have found one i like.
Anywho.
Since i am just how i am (i get realy nervous easy)
I threw out her cage since i was worried about IBD...
Soooo.. I did happon to get a store credit to regal reptiles by the way for lady dying
in the full money that i payed for her so u know lori
Anywho again.. The boa i like can be here in 1-2 weeks..
and anyway.. i wanted to use a rubbermaid for it until i can get a neodishia for it from regal,
so unless i can get the cage befor the boa i want to use a rubbermaid to house it
ive seen snakepool and other's use them for baby snakes w/ out a probblem.
so i want to know exactly how to heat it and what size to get
and all that stuff..
also i might not need to do it as i do have a 20 gal cage i have extra just cant find any
slide on covers for it .. lol the on i have for it has a huge hole in it anyway
any tips on how to use rubbermaids i would apprechiate it.

Yeah, they seem to work well for me to. I got all the tips for mine from SnakePool as well. Basically, I use a 55GL. Take a jigsaw or something that could cut throught the lid and cut a square out. Take a drill and drill holes around the square and apply some hardware cloth with cable ties to secure it. As for the heating, I use a heat lamp and a human heat pad under it. Hope this helps.

I use the same method for my monitors. I cant afford nice caging right now so my monitors are in 55GL Rubbermaids. I use a jigsaw to cut a rectangle in the top and use big zipties to hold down 10GL terrarium screen tops. It works great for the heatlamps, dont overheat and you can still look in on the animals without bothering them. I also use human heating pads, and have no problem keeping temps around 87-91F in there. I guess the basking spot is around 100F but cant really tell with the lamp and stickon temp strip.

Owell, if all goes well this summer I'll have a nice 6'x5'x3' cage for the bluetailed monitor and a 6'x2'x3' cage for the savannah. Someting they should enjoy alot more.

be the best color rubbermaid for housing a baby boa ( i plan to get it setup within 2-3 days)

It could be a little to big for a baby boa, but with plenty of hiding spots and furnishings, it should work fine. As for the temperature, like heat mats, you will probably need to play around with them and see. It varies from place to place. I personally like the dark colors better as well. I use a dark blue. I also like the grey, but it wasn't in stock when I got mine. The color choice is up to you though.
