Model 400 Vision cage
Is anyone using this cage for their boa? I've been looking at caging and actually like it the best because its 2 inches wider at 26 and 2 inches taller at 14. If anyone has feed back for me I would appreciate all comments.
Thanks so much,
Karen

Same Deal
I too have been looking in to the vision 400 for the fact it is a little bigger and the slidding glass doors are nice. I dont have any snakes as of yet ,i am doing all the research first. the cage is between the Vision 400 and the 421D CAGE by Boaphile .
I like the fact that at boaphile you can order with the heat pad, thermastat, or lights installed.
the boaphile is 48x 24 x11.5 and is 199 delivered
http://www.boaphileplastics.com/cages.html
the vision is 48"x26"x14" also is 199 delivered
http://www.kingsnake.com/visionherp/
i looking to get two baby argintine boas, the cage will have a divider in it till they get to big for that.
good luck barker

ya, that's the other one I've been seriously considering. I just don't like that 11.5 in height but it definitely has its advantages too. That's why I thought I would post and see what other people thought. Let me know what you decide to do.

I don't think you can go wrong with either cage but if I only had a snake or two I'd go with the Vision and add flex watt....you can't beat sliding doors. I love the space I don't have to use with having sliders and I also love glass vs plexiglass but that is just me. Sliders take less space and the glass is easier to clean and never needs replacing as long as you don't break it. It's also only slightly higher in price than plexiglass. I order mine from Glass manufacturers rather than Home Depot or other home improvement stores though so I can get it cut to the size I want. You can also order it tempered to accomodate the largest and strongest snakes if you wish. My largest boas have never challenged the glass in my larger cages even though I did have them tempered at least not while I was watching and I have a habit of visiting them late at night to see what they are up to. : )
I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either cage though.
Both vendors are excellent.
For multiple caging requirements I'd go with Boaphile and use the black cage for the animals sake and I think that is very attractive. They stack wonderfully and are one of the nicest cages around. There are many reviews around this site for Boaphiles.
Vision is also a wonderful cage and if space is not a problem my pick because of the sliding glass doors. I do wish they were available in black though.
What we need is a vendor that offers the advantages of both cages in one!
You might also wish to check out older threads on cage building as that too is a very good alternative and you can get what you like best all in one if your handy or know someone who is. They can be built for small bucks up to big time dollars according to what you want.....economy and function or nice furniture grade displays! It's all up to your likes and dislikes.

im not a fan of boaphiles..the whole latched glass idea irks me. Vision cages on the other hand are more pratical and there's no problem with sliding glass doors...and add flex watt to that? rawr baby.. lol
on a serious note i've heard better things about vision cages and a breeder that i buy my snakes from used vision cages and they rock.

You could not pay me to take a Vision Cage. Brittle and unsafe in my opinion. Boaphiles I don't like either. But I am also a firm believer that each type of cage is good for something. I just have not found what for Visions.

LOL! Give it time Lethargic. I have had more snakes escape from slide front doors than any other kind. I have NEVER had an escape from front hinged.

That only helps to a certain extent. I have heard good things about the Animal Plastics sliding front cages. The lock goes through the glass or plexi so that it cannot be lifeted out. Of course, I hate the look of the AP hinged front cages. I used to put that same hardware on fence gates

I too have been looking at the vision 400 cages and plan on buying a couple of them soon for my boas. I have had the vision 734 cage for 5 years now and love it. I don't know why you say that they are "brittle and unsafe" BWSmith. I have moved mine all over the place, up and down stairs by sliding it and it is still as solid as the day I bought it. As for safty, if you lock the cage witha proper sliding door lock there is no chance of a snake escaping. If you don't lock it of course the snake can get out. My glass doors are on roller tracks and you can open them if you blow hard on them, but I keep mine locked all the time! I know several people who use vision cages and some like them and some don't. Nobody is ever going to agree on everything.
All and all I think that they are the best you can get for your money. The material is thicker, stronger and doesn't have seams at every joint. And you just can't beat tempered glass for doors.

Tileboard rules. I weigh in at 320 lbs and I can stand ontop of my tileboard cages...and a 4 foot cage costs me under 50 bucks to build. So for the price of every one of the visions and boaphiles you guys are stacking up, I'm building 4 cages that you can park a truck on top of. I have 3 precisions and 1 barrs cage. I like them. They are light weight and don't hurt my eyeballs to look at them. But the 4 foot precisions are starting to sag. I put dividers in the two bottom ones to lift them back up...but I still think plastic cages are either flimsy or will become flimsy over time...and building my own tileboard cages is cheaper. Cheap can be good sometimes.
